Some messages arrive quietly, yet they awaken a lifetime of memories. One such delightful moment came when I received a WhatsApp message from Rajeevan, my beloved student from the 1986 batch of SDM College, Honavar. Time has flown, careers have flourished, yet the bond between a teacher and student remains timeless. In his message, Rajeevan expressed his happiness at the thought of joining me for a morning walk at Coin Circle, Manipal. Unfortunately, I happened to read the message a little late—but destiny had its own beautiful plan.
Instead
of a walk, I felt inspired to invite him to experience the warmth and
camaraderie of the ABC Laughter Team, Manipal, at the scenic MJC Grounds—a
place where joy, health, and friendship bloom every morning. Rajeevan
graciously accepted the invitation, and the day instantly became special.
On
5th February 2026, after my usual early-morning swim at the MIT Swimming Pool,
I reached MJC Grounds at 6:30 a.m. sharp. Rajeevan arrived right on time. With
immense pride and affection, I introduced him to the esteemed members of our
ABC Laughter Team. The session was led by our dynamic team leader, Rotarian
Karnukar Shetty. Interestingly, unlike our usual free-flowing bursts of
laughter, the session carried a slightly serious tone—perhaps a subtle tribute
to the presence of an accomplished and respected guest among us.
Adding
sparkle to the morning, Radhakrishna, our founder member and a trainer of great
repute, introduced each member of the laughter team to Rajeevan with his
trademark humour. His witty narration drew smiles and laughter all around, and
everyone thoroughly enjoyed the moment. We are indeed fortunate to have such a
talented and inspiring personality as part of our team.
To
mark this unforgettable reunion with my dear student, I hosted a breakfast
gathering at MIT Food Court 1. Surrounded by cheerful conversations, laughter,
and the serene, clean ambience of the food court, all the members truly enjoyed
the occasion. It was a simple breakfast, yet rich in warmth, friendship, and
shared happiness.
Meeting
Rajeevan after all these years was deeply moving. He has earned a name and
reputation in every field he has chosen, actively contributing to society,
Rotary activities, and numerous initiatives in Navi Mumbai. Notably, he has
also connected all his classmates through an active and vibrant WhatsApp
group—an inspiring example of leadership and togetherness.
Moments
like these remind me why teaching is not just a profession, but a lifelong
blessing. Reuniting with a student who has grown into a remarkable human being
is a rare and precious joy—one that I will cherish forever.
