Faculty Development Programme on Mendeley: Reference Management System

Dr. Sureshramana Mayya, a Research Professor at Srinivas Institute of Management and Commerce, conducted a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) for the commerce faculty of Alvas College of Commerce. The programme was conducted on 16-07-2024. The programme focused on the use of Mendeley as a reference management system. Dr. Narayana Shetty, Registrar and Evaluation of Alvas College (Autonomous), presided over the function. The event began with an invocation by Sri Ramakrishna Shetty, Faculty, Department of Commerce.

Mrs. Navya Shetty, Assistant Professor in PG Studies in Commerce, welcomed and introduced the resource person, Dr. Sureshramana Mayya, and all the participants. She also introduced Dr. Narayana Shetty, who presided over the function. Mrs. Sharmila Kunder welcomed the resource person florally. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Mayya through the symbolic lighting of the lamp, representing the illumination of knowledge and wisdom.


In his presidential remarks, Dr. Narayana Shetty appreciated the commerce department's initiative in organizing the FDP. He expressed his happiness at having Dr. Mayya, a close friend and a technical expert, as the resource person. He highlighted the importance of faculty being proficient in using the latest technology, especially as Alvas College has embraced academic autonomy. Dr. Shetty emphasized that faculty competence and research orientation are crucial for shaping the future of students. Mrs. Rekha proposed the vote of thanks.



Dr. Mayya's session on Mendeley covered a wide range of topics including the rationale behind Mendeley's development, installation procedures, using the Reference Manager, inserting references, adding PDF documents, incorporating references from various online libraries, and installing the Mendeley Cite extension for Microsoft Word. He also discussed changing citation styles, overriding references, citing multiple authors, using APA Style, integrating AI tools with Mendeley, using Consensus with Mendeley, installing and using the web importer, and utilizing N-List, ProQuest, JSTOR, and Google Scholar with Mendeley. Dr. Mayya addressed numerous questions from the faculty, providing online examples for clarity.

Mrs. Sharmila Kunder, Head of the Department of Commerce, coordinated the programme efficiently, ensuring its smooth execution.
