On 13th April 2025, I had the unique privilege of participating in the Chandika Homa performed by my brother-in-law, Shri Balakrishna Bhat, at the Shri Durgaparameshwari Temple, Maroor.
We began our journey
at 9:30 am and reached Hebri by 9:50 am. On the way, I picked up
some “Atrasa” sweets to share later with our Laughing Club friends. We
reached the temple by 11:00 am—my first visit to this sacred site.
Shri Balakrishna Bhat,
who also serves as the President of the Temple Trust, has overseen
commendable developments at the temple. I was deeply impressed by the temple’s
serene atmosphere, which instantly invoked a sense of peace.
Coincidentally, 13th
April marked Mesha Sankranti, a significant day in the Hindu
calendar. On this auspicious occasion, Annadana (community meal) was
organized at the temple, sponsored by Shri Bhat himself, as part of his
spiritual and community service.
🔥 Chandika Homa: A Sacred Vedic Ritual
The Chandika Homa,
performed by Shri Bhat and his wife, is a powerful Vedic fire ritual dedicated
to Goddess Chandi, a fierce form of Durga. The ritual involves chanting
verses from the Durga Saptashati and offering oblations into the sacred
fire. It invokes divine feminine energy, destroys negative influences, and
bestows protection, prosperity, good health, and spiritual upliftment.
The chanting of the sacred Navakshari Mantra is a central part of the
homa, making it especially auspicious during Navaratri or other spiritually
potent days.
👪 Family & Fellowship
I had the joy of meeting several of Shreemathi’s relatives, who accompanied Gopi and me. The day was filled with devotion, connection, and a shared sense of purpose. After lunch, we returned through Maroor-Goliyangadi-Shiroor Murkai-Kolalagiri-Manipal Road. On the way, I also visited my mother-in-law's house at Goliyangadi and packed some jackfruit to take to Manipal.
