A Fruitful Saturday at Srinivas University: PhD Viva held on 20th Saturday 2025

One of the joys of retirement is the opportunity to reconnect with fellow academicians and research colleagues. Meeting once a week keeps the mind stimulated and the spirit engaged. This Saturday was no exception—I had the pleasure of visiting Srinivas University, Pandeshwar Campus, Mangaluru, arriving at the familiar halls around 9:30 a.m.

Meeting with a Ph.D. Student

The day began with a brief interaction with my Ph.D. student, Nigil, where we discussed progress and shared updates. These mentor–mentee conversations always remind me how research is a continuous cycle of curiosity and learning.

Attending the Ph.D. Viva-Voce

Soon after, I attended the Ph.D. Open Viva-Voce Examination of Mr. Rahul Thampi R, a research scholar under the guidance of Dr. K. Shivashankar Bhat, Research Professor at Srinivas University. The thesis, titled “Consumers’ Perception, Buying Behaviour and Dynamics of Marketing Strategies of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in Kerala,” explored consumer attitudes, adoption patterns, and marketing influences in the rapidly growing EV sector.

The defense was conducted in the BOSCH Room at the City Campus. A distinguished professor from Vijayapur served as the external examiner, bringing sharp observations and valuable feedback.

Insights and Discussions

As the session unfolded, I joined in the discussion, raising points on the policy environment and consumer mindset towards EVs in both Kerala and Karnataka. These exchanges highlighted not just academic insights but also practical challenges—such as how incentives, infrastructure, and social perceptions shape adoption.

The interaction reminded me how vibrant such academic gatherings are, blending rigorous research with lived realities.

Reflections

The morning was more than an academic exercise; it was a reminder of the community we build through scholarship. Sharing thoughts with fellow professors, guiding young researchers, and engaging in policy-relevant debates makes these weekly meetings deeply rewarding.

Research does not end with retirement—it only finds new rhythms and richer conversations.
