AGM Report of Eshwarnagar Residents' Welfare Association

The Eshwar Nagar Residents’ Welfare Association (R.), Manipal (ERWA) successfully conducted its 20th Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) on Saturday, 19 September 2026, at Vaishnavi Sabha Bhavan, Eshwar Nagar, Manipal.

The event brought together a large number of members and their families and became a memorable evening of community participation, fellowship, cultural entertainment and collective commitment towards the welfare of Eshwar Nagar.

The AGM was held under the leadership of Mr. Harish G. Kalmadi, President; Dr. Balachandra, Secretary; and Mr. Ganapathi Kamath, Treasurer, with the wholehearted support of the Executive Committee members, senior members and volunteers of the Association.

The official notice had envisaged an evening comprising refreshments, the formal AGM business session, entertainment and dinner. The programme proceeded smoothly, with members gathering for refreshments before the formal proceedings and remaining together until the grand dinner at the conclusion of the evening.

A Warm Beginning with Fellowship

The programme began with members and their families assembling at the venue and spending time interacting with neighbours and friends.

Refreshments were served to the participants, providing an informal opportunity for members to meet one another before the commencement of the formal session. The refreshments included Malt and the popular Mangalorean Goli Baje.

The registration arrangements were efficiently handled by Mrs. Suma Nayak, who took primary responsibility at the registration counter and helped ensure the orderly reception and registration of members.

Formal Annual General Body Meeting

The formal AGM session commenced at around 6.00 PM.

President’s Welcome Address

Mr. Harish G. Kalmadi, President of ERWA, formally welcomed the gathering and inaugurated the proceedings of the Annual General Body Meeting. Beginning with an invocation to Lord Ganesha and the local deity, he extended warm greetings to all members and their families and expressed his happiness at the large and enthusiastic participation in the meeting.

He welcomed the senior members, office-bearers and Executive Committee members of the Association, including Prof. H. K. Vishwanath Rao, Vice-President Dr. Raghu Chandrashekar, Secretary Dr. Balachandra, Treasurer Mr. Ganapathi Kamath, and Joint Secretary Dr. Ravindra Maradi, along with former Councillor Mr. Manjunath and all residents present.

In his address, Mr. Kalmadi highlighted the importance of active participation by members and encouraged everyone to freely share their views, suggestions and constructive ideas. He observed that such inputs would provide valuable guidance for the future activities of the Association and called upon residents to continue working together in unity for the welfare and betterment of Eshwar Nagar.

The President also remembered with gratitude the contributions of departed senior members Late Mr. Srinivas Rao and Late Mr. H. N. S. Rao, who had played important roles in strengthening ERWA during its formative years. He acknowledged the services of former Presidents, office-bearers and several longstanding members who have contributed to the growth and development of the Association over the years.

He further appreciated the contributions of members involved in the organisation of the AGM and cultural programme, including Mrs. Shashikala, Mrs. Mukta Nagesh and others who had worked behind the scenes. He also acknowledged Mr. Prashanth for his support in maintaining cleanliness in the locality.

Concluding his address, Mr. Kalmadi thanked everyone who had contributed towards the successful organisation of the AGM and expressed the hope that the residents would continue to strengthen the spirit of friendship, cooperation and collective responsibility within the Eshwar Nagar community.

 In accordance with the announced agenda, the meeting included the customary opening proceedings, recording of the meeting notice, the President's address, presentation of the Association's activities and annual report, presentation of the audited financial statements and discussion of matters relating to the welfare and development of Eshwar Nagar.

Members were given an opportunity to participate in the deliberations and express their views on matters concerning the Association and the neighbourhood.

The proceedings reflected ERWA's continuing commitment to transparent administration, collective decision-making and active participation by residents.

Leadership and Teamwork Behind the Successful AGM

The successful organisation of an event of this scale required considerable advance planning and coordination.

Special appreciation is due to Mr. Harish G. Kalmadi, President; Dr. Balachandra, Secretary; and Mr. Ganapathi Kamath, Treasurer, for their leadership and for coordinating the numerous activities connected with the AGM.

The office-bearers, Executive Committee members, senior advisors, volunteers and members worked together behind the scenes to ensure that the programme was conducted smoothly.

Their collective effort once again demonstrated the strength of teamwork within ERWA.

Colourful Cultural Programme

One of the highlights of the evening was the cultural programme presented by ERWA members and children.

The performances demonstrated that the Association is not merely a forum for administrative and civic matters, but also a platform for nurturing friendship, creativity and inter-generational participation among the families of Eshwar Nagar.

Group Dance – A Special Attraction

The group dance performance was particularly appreciated by the audience.

Preparing a coordinated dance involving senior members, women, men and children was no easy task. The final performance was possible because of the enthusiasm of the participants and the patient training and encouragement provided by the cultural team.

ERWA places on record its special appreciation to Mrs. Mukta for choreographing and training the group.

Her patience, commitment and perseverance in preparing participants from different age groups were reflected in the beautifully coordinated performance.

Special thanks are also due to Mrs. Shashikala Rajavarma, who undertook the important task of inviting participants, bringing the team together, coordinating rehearsals and repeatedly reminding and motivating members to attend the dance practice sessions.

Their efforts turned the group dance into one of the memorable attractions of AGM 2026.

Musical Performances

Music added further charm to the evening.

The programme included enjoyable solo songs by Dr. Ullas Kamath and Dr. Vinayak Shenoy.

A lively group-song presentation by Mrs. Asha Timmappa and team was also warmly appreciated by those present.

The talented children of Dr. Adiga's family entertained the gathering with instrumental music, demonstrating the musical abilities of the younger generation of ERWA families.

The involvement of children alongside senior members gave the cultural evening a distinctive family character.

Fun Games for Members

Another enjoyable part of the evening was the fun-games session conducted by Mrs. Shashikala and Miss Neha. The winners were given prizes.

The games encouraged interaction and participation and brought considerable enthusiasm and laughter to the gathering.

Such activities contributed significantly to the atmosphere of friendship and informal interaction among residents.

Excellent Anchoring and Programme Coordination

Dr. Divyashree served as the Master of Ceremonies and conducted the programme with confidence and elegance, smoothly linking the various segments of the evening.

ERWA sincerely appreciates her contribution to keeping the programme organised and engaging.

Special appreciation is also due to Dr. Shobha Kamath, who provided extensive support and assisted in coordinating the cultural activities despite having personal commitments at home.

Her willingness to contribute to the Association's programme despite those commitments was particularly appreciated.

Recognition of Prof. H. K. Vishwanath Rao

A special moment of the evening was the felicitation of Prof. H. K. Vishwanath Rao, one of the very senior members of the Association.

Prof. Vishwanath Rao has been an exemplary member of the community, and ERWA was privileged to recognise him on the occasion of the 20th AGM.

The Association expresses its gratitude to him for graciously accepting the felicitation and for his longstanding association with the Eshwar Nagar community.

Appreciation for Valuable Services to ERWA

The Association also acknowledged members who have been contributing consistently to its activities in different ways.

Mr. Ganapathi Kamath

Special appreciation is due to Treasurer Mr. Ganapathi Kamath, who quietly undertakes several important responsibilities throughout the year.

Apart from his duties as Treasurer, he has been actively involved in:

• collection and follow-up of annual membership subscriptions;
• maintaining financial records;
• sending birthday greetings to members;
• encouraging eligible residents to join ERWA;
• facilitating the enrolment of new members; and
• ensuring timely compliance with the statutory and legal formalities required of a registered association.

Much of this work happens quietly in the background but is essential for the smooth and legally compliant functioning of ERWA.

Mr. Rajavarma Ariga

ERWA also places on record its appreciation for Mr. Rajavarma Ariga for his valuable service, involvement and continuing contribution to the Association.

Dr. Sureshramana Mayya

Special acknowledgement was made of Dr. Sureshramana Mayya for documenting the activities and important events of ERWA and for establishing and maintaining a dedicated ERWA blog, thereby creating a permanent digital record of the Association's activities with Eshwarnagar youtube chennels.

The blog has become an important means of preserving ERWA's history and communicating its activities to members and the wider community.

Support for Student Scholarships

ERWA gratefully acknowledges Col. M. M. Shanbhag for his generous financial support towards student scholarships.

Such contributions extend the Association's activities beyond neighbourhood administration and reflect ERWA's commitment to social responsibility and educational support.

Unity is strength. Let us continue to foster friendship among the families of Eshwar Nagar, support one another and undertake meaningful social and community-service activities for the betterment of our Colony.

The 20th AGM was not merely an annual statutory meeting. It became an evening celebrating community, friendship, service, talent and togetherness.
