MGM Staff Club Day 2025 – A Celebration of Enduring Values and Cherished Bonds
I have always
said—with pride—that MGM stands for values. These values are not just phrases
inscribed on plaques or mission statements but are lived every day through the
actions of its people and the traditions it upholds. Over the decades, MGM
College has remained steadfast in its commitment to quality, student-centric
development, and a culture that respects both progress and its past.
While it is often seen in colleges across Karnataka that retired faculty are no longer remembered or invited to annual gatherings, MGM College has consistently set itself apart. Except for a brief lapse during the tenure of Principal Jayaprakash Mavinakuli, every Staff Club Day has been marked by the warm tradition of inviting all living retired faculty members to the celebrations. This is not done through institutional funding or external sponsorship but by the generous contributions of the current staff, who personally bear the additional expenses related to sports events and the high-quality dinner that marks the occasion.

- Dr. Devidas Nayak, Principal of MGM Evening College,
- Mrs. Malathi, Principal of MGM Pre-University College.
On 17th March 2025, I had the pleasure of attending the Staff Club Day of MGM College, held at 6:00 PM on campus. It was a special evening in many ways. I was especially delighted to be joined by Dr. N. T. Bhat, a highly respected retired faculty member of MGM. Though retired from teaching, Dr. Bhat continues to enrich Kannada literature with his contributions and was recently honoured with the prestigious “Akalanka Prashasthi” award on Sunday, 23rd March 2025, in a grand ceremony at Nuthana Ravindra Mantapa, MGM College, Udupi.
The Staff Club Day itself was a well-orchestrated and
heartwarming event. Prof. Lakshminarayana Karanth, the Principal of MGM College,
took the lead in organizing the function with great care and attention to
detail, supported wholeheartedly by the faculty team.
The chief guest for the evening was CA Varadaraya Pai,
the Secretary of the Academy of General Education, whose presence added grace
and significance to the occasion.
Joining them on the dais were several key academic
leaders:
The program flowed with warmth, laughter, and moments
of reflection. Heartfelt speeches, cheerful interactions, and a spirit of
togetherness marked the evening. The event concluded with a delightful dinner,
where the hospitality matched the emotion of the evening. I returned home by 9:00
PM, deeply touched and thoroughly content.
In the end, it was more than just an annual event. It celebrated the values MGM holds dear—respect, continuity, gratitude, and community. For those of us who have been fortunate to be part of this institution, events like these are not just gatherings; they are reminders of the enduring spirit of MGM.
